If your body could talk to you how do you suppose the conversation would go? Would it thank you for being kind and thoughtful towards it or be peeved for putting it through distress? Good health and a fit lifestyle is the perfect combination for body harmony. To achieve these two, mindful food choices with focused inclusion of all kind of food groups in your daily diet is important.
Today’s list is an eclectic mix of food items that lend taste, colour and nutrition and can all be part of a three-course meal!
Kidney beans/Rajma
Native to Mexico and Central America, kidney beans are devoured around the world. Kidney beans are high in carbs and have an impressive amount of plant-based protein. They’re also rich in vitamin K1 and minerals like iron, folate, manganese and copper. Kidney beans aid in weight loss and colon cancer prevention and help regulate blood sugar levels. They’re available in different colours like white, brown, red and purple.
Kidney beans are the main ingredient in many Mexican dishes and wraps. Rajma chawal qualifies as one of the most wholesome and nutritious foods in India. Also, you can make cutlets and slip them as patties in your burgers. They compliment your fit lifestyle perfectly.
Kiwi
Kiwi is one of the prettiest foods ever! Its lovely green flesh has edible black seeds and tastes tangy and sweet. Kiwis are filled with many nutrients like Vitamins C, K, E, potassium and folate. They also contain good amounts of fiber and antioxidants. Kiwis help reduce blood clotting and in asthma treatment, aid digestion and boost immunity too.
Kiwis are tangy and juicy and make the perfect blend for cocktails and mocktails. No fruit cake or pastry is complete without the topping of a Kiwi slice. Add them to your smoothie bowl, desserts, chop them in your salads or just have them raw.
Kaafir lime
Thanks to Thai cuisine, Kaafir Lime is now introduced to our food palate and plate. Kaafir lime is an herb with a strong citrus aroma. It has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to its essential oils Kaafir Lime is extensively used in aromatherapy and stress reduction techniques. It is good for oral hygiene and is a boon for skin and hair. Also, citronella oil in it helps keep those buzzing flies at bay! Its leaves are extensively used as well.
Kaafir lime adds flavour to any recipe with its lovely smell. You can add it to gravies, soups, jams or grilled dishes. What better way to enjoy a fit lifestyle and good food too?
Kashmiri Kahwa
Kashmiri Kahwa tops the list of any tea lover (or may be comes a close second after Masala chai). This rich blend infused with the subtle flavours of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and saffron is fast gaining popularity for its delectable taste and heady aroma. Kashmiri Kahwa is a natural detoxifier and stress-buster. It boosts immunity and promotes heart health while blessing you with youthful skin.
Kashmiri Kahwa is a natural remedy for common cold. Additionally, its benefits can be enjoyed best by consuming it after meals.
I’ve added and struck out many food items from my plate for a fit lifestyle. Kale is a great addition while ketchup can be removed or used in moderation. Kababs are everyone’s favourite and can be given a healthy twist.
