Top 5 places to visit in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai became my home when I shifted here post-marriage and I fell in love with it quickly and effortlessly. This planned and beautifully laid out city has repeatedly featured amongst the top 10 cleanest cities in the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan, and rightly so. There’s a lot to see, explore and experience here. I’m sharing with you my top 5 picks of Navi Mumbai today.

Palm Beach Road

This road outlines the Navi Mumbai coast on the Thane Creek that joins it by the Vashi-Mankhurd bridge to Mumbai. It is one of the most iconic locations in Navi Mumbai and famous of its smooth roads, magnificent view and luxurious lifestyle experience. There’s a lake on this road which has a well-kept joggers park. Also, during winters this road transforms into a Happy Street and has loads of fun activities.

Wonders Park

Located in Nerul, this park is stretched over a large area and has loads of tourist attractions. Apart from replicas of the seven wonders it has fun rides, games, a train, lake, amphitheatre and a food court. It is refreshingly clean and well-maintained. There’s also a track that covers it’s diameter for walking/jogging. One can never have enough pictures of this place!

Urban Haat

Urban Haat is located opposite to the Belapur Station and is one of my frequently visited places. Created and maintained by Cidco, this place provides a platform for promotion of art and craft. It has various shops that display specialties like clothes, jewellery, food etc of different states of our country. One can attend various festivals here throughout the year. It’s amphitheatre offers a lot of different activities and performances too.

Belapur Hills

Navi Mumbai has essentially been formed over hills. While most of them are gone, a precious few still remain and offer respite from the hustle and bustle of the city with their green cover. I’ve often visited these hills with friends during monsoons for long walks and love every bit of them. The tranquil experience, waterfalls, chirping birds and view of Kharghar from atop the hills are a huge draw!

Bird watching

Bird watchers have a lot to rejoice about here as different types of migrant, winter, water birds etc can be spotted round the year. The Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Panvel is home to some exotic species like magpie robin, paradise fly catcher, golden backed woodpecker, malabar whistling trush, racket-tailed drongo, crested serpent eagle etc., while flamingos can be sighted in abundance in the Thane Creek and Uran Creek area. Understandably, nature walks with an element of bird watching are quite common in Navi Mumbai.

Hope you enjoyed reading about the lovely city of Navi Mumbai. Apart from these there are a lot of great places to eat out too. Belapur is famous for its elite lounge bars and cafes while Vashi is home to some traditionally famous restaurants like Bhagat Tarachand and Nanumal Bhojraj. Nerul, with its wide array of schools and colleges has some awesome fast food joints. More about the food culture of Navi Mumbai is another post, I promise!
