Rice is a food item that will silently rescue you in case you don’t know what to prepare for meals. A freshly prepared dish of rice can be made into anything, according to whatever is available in the fridge. Always store Bharat rice in your pantry as it comes in handy for any kind of preparation. If you are doing online grocery shopping, it is also easy to add rice, dal, curd and a few vegetables to the same order and have the basics ready for the week.

1. Dal Rice
Start with the obvious one because it is obvious for a reason. Prepare the rice and dal along with tomatoes, onions, turmeric and any other spices that you use on a regular basis. In case there is some spinach, bottle gourd or any other vegetable available in your refrigerator, include it in the dal preparation. You can end the process with ghee, pickles or a papad, if available. This does not require anything very fancy to be done. Sometimes a bowl of hot dal and rice is exactly what you want after a long day.
2. Khichdi
If you would like to go for something simple like one-pot cooking and save time as well as washing utensils, khichdi can be your choice. You need to rinse the rice and the moong dal, after which you can add turmeric, salt, and vegetables that will be required to be cooked until they become soft. Some possible options may include carrots, peas, beans, etc., but you can add anything you have at your disposal. You can also temper with ghee and cumin if you wish to. If you do not, just serve it with curd or pickle and get dinner over with.
3. Curd Rice
Got leftover rice? Keep it. After it cools down, mix it up with some fresh curd and salt. To give it that special taste, heat some oil in which you need to add mustard seeds, curry leaves, ginger, and green chilli and then pour it on top of your preparation. You can even use coriander or pomegranate seeds if available. This dish is quite useful when you want a quick lunch without cooking anything else.
4. Vegetable Pulao
Making pulao is a great idea when you need to make use of the veggies lying in your fridge. Sauté onions along with cumin seeds and whole spices. Now add the chopped veggies and add washed rice to it. Add the necessary amount of water and cook it. Peas, carrots, and beans can be very easily used, but it is not necessary to use all. Just use what you have available and enjoy your pulao with curd or raita.
5. Lemon Rice
If you have leftover cooked rice, then cooking lemon rice becomes much easier. Oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies and peanuts can be added. Then the rice can be added to it along with the addition of lemon juice and seasoning. It is nice with curd, papad or a little pickle on the side.
Keep The Basics Ready
A totally fresh shopping list is not needed for every meal. A few ingredients like rice, dal, yoghurt, lemon, and some vegetables will take care of a handful of combinations. If something runs out during the week, Instamart can be an option for placing another order, subject to product availability. Online grocery shopping can be particularly useful when you only need a couple of ingredients.
The point of keeping bharat rice at home is not to make dinner complicated. This could not be further from the truth. If you have all the base ingredients within your reach, go ahead and alter your side dishes or seasonings as you like.
