Hi readers! I felt that I deserved a breather after my last book but here I am, reading and writing about my latest exploits again. Excited to share another book review with you all and this time it’s a fun fiction book Written In The Stars by Divya Anand.
About the book
Written in the Stars is what happens when a curly-haired Sitara with a fierce competitive streak reaches a tricky point in her career and has to construe wild imaginative ideas to get her way ahead. Her crush Abhimanyu Singh turns out to be her astrology-obsessed boss and like a woman-possessed Sitara is suddenly consulting his horoscope to schedule meetings and plan launches.
She brushes her friends the wrong way and takes advantage of Abhimanyu’s vulnerability hurting everyone in the process. Is he naïve to not see through her devious plan? Can Sitara trade everything dear to her for a mere promotion? Is our destiny really written in the stars? This book is a fun take on these seemingly ‘serious’ questions and a joy for a book review.
My thoughts
Set in Bangalore, this book promises a fun read right from the first sentence. Grappling with the punishing name picked out by her toddler elder sister, Sitara is at ease with herself amongst her friends while guzzling down either a beer or a Starbucks mint coffee. Her extreme competitive attitude is endearing at first and reaches astronomically crazy proportions as she foresees losing out her promotion to her manipulative colleague, Dhruv.
Written in the Stars has a lot of interesting elements that bring the story beautifully together. The challenges of a start-up, the process of product design, everyday office politics, and unrequited love make it seem like just another day at work. However, the horoscope element gives the story a neat, unexpected twist. Girl-bonding is the best thing at the centre of all this madness. Kavya is the darling friend we all need in our lives and Inaya is the all-knowing cute niece anyone would want to have around.
Abhimanyu Singh, despite his strange astrology obsession, is irresistible. His self-assuredness and chiselled features make you fall head over heels in love with him. The best part about this book though is the trivia night. I found myself wishing for their week to roll faster so I could see what’s in store for them. I hope George visits Mumbai and gives us a try too. Just kidding (or not?)!
Divya’s writing has evolved by leaps and bounds since her last book and deserves a special mention in this book review. She has presumably weaved her personal experiences in the story to add authenticity to it, and it works. To sum up, expect loads of laughs in this book and some sullen moments to balance them out. Even stars twinkle, don’t they?
My rating: **** 4/5 stars

I can see myself reading this book this weekend. Written in the Stars has everything I’m struggling with right now – for example, the challenges of working in a start-up, the process of product design, everyday office politics, and unrequited love. However, the part I’m most interested in is the horoscope element.
