Pollution and its harmful effects have been fervently discussed and warned about since we were kids. However, the sad truth remains that decades later, we seem to have taken little to no responsibility to reduce or control it. While on one side we crib about stinking garbage dumps full of non-recyclable materials, we litter irresponsibly on roads, beaches, and mountains on the other. Some of us choose eco-friendly practices like avoiding plastic and minimizing waste, but there’s still a long way to go. Can we completely right the wrongs committed by others? Maybe not. Hence, it’s important to explore ways to recycle or support brands that use recycled plastic to create new products.
As we all know, plastic waste has created an alarming situation globally. From clogging our drains to damaging marine life, it has wreaked havoc everywhere. The only way to deal with it is to recycle and reuse it. Recycled plastic products are one of the easiest ways to promote sustainable living and can be used in fashion, accessories, furniture, toys, and lots more. Many companies are adopting eco-friendly and ingenious practices worldwide and in India. For the sake of this post let’s know about five recycled plastic product brands in India.
UNIREC
Unirec was founded in 2021 and creates workwear, clothing, and uniforms using recycled pet bottles. CEO and founder Kapil Bhatia’s vision was to make sustainability a culture, not a habit. Unirec has low carbon emissions throughout the manufacturing process and aims at minimum wastage. Other Unirec products include shirts, blazers, trendy t-shirts, jackets, and trousers.

They create stylish and durable home accessories that can be cleaned easily and withstand the wear and tear caused by everyday life. You can find all kinds of outdoor, area, and camping rugs and doormats made from natural fibers and recycled plastic. Many of their products are biodegradable and can be upcycled after their life span.

SCRAPSHALA
Scrapshala was founded in 2016 to create a product line that could minimise the waste sent to landfills and use art and creativity to convert it into innovative and functional items. It is a woman-led brand aiming at reviving traditional handicrafts by upcycling sustainably. They use twelve categories of recycled plastic materials like old tires, plastic wrappers, glass bottles, old newspapers, magazines, etc, and create premium products from them.

ECONITURE
Econiture was founded in 2017 and is a division of Recycle Bell Private Limited. CEO and co-founder Madhur Rathi observes that Indian startups are yet to untap the potential revenue and employment opportunities generated by this segment. They create furniture like writing desks, stands, tables, racks, chairs, etc made from recycled plastic. Their products are rust and waterproof, low maintenance, and eco-friendly. They also do not have any metallic inclusions.

The best way to curb plastic pollution is to adopt an eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle emphasising reuse, recycling, sharing, and rotation of surplus items. However, the production rate is far more than the rate of destruction or recycling right now. Supporting companies making recycled plastic products like these can be the right step towards playing our part in the protection of our environment. After all, we just have one home, and it’s our responsibility to keep it clean and safe, right?
