Remember your grandparents and #LoveJatao

Grandparents always hold a special place in our hearts. We might or might not hold ourselves in great esteem but for them we are no less than the best. They are our support system and our confidantes. They are fun and give the most sensible advice. I’m glad to be a part of the #LoveJatao activity in association with Parachute Advansed and Blogadda.

Some relationships are so beautiful that we do not mind living and cherishing them vicariously through someone else. The love and bonding I see between my kids and their grandparents everyday is one such relation. Even being far away from each other, the intimacy in their interactions is hard to miss.

Having lost both my grandfathers even before I could learn to stand on my own feet, I never knew how it felt to covertly conspire, hold Grandpa’s finger and walk down to the nearest shop to buy a chocolate, make him a ‘ghoda’ and ride on his back in an impressive warrior pose or cuddle up with him while making him watch their favourite cartoons with them. It is fun to watch when my kids make Dad do all of this, and more!

I was luckier when it came to my maternal Grandma though. My Nani was one of the purest souls on earth who hadn’t met or heard of words like evil, anger or jealousy. Fair and beautiful, she always wore soft light-coloured cotton saris, the ends of which turned marginally black by the end of the day if we were around. When Mom got down for her afternoon nap, Nani would keep us engaged with her creative stories. She had such a vivid imagination that no story ever got repeated.

A lot has changed over the years, and some of it not for the best. While my in-laws indulge the kids a lot, their failing health doesn’t allow them to spend as much time with them as they’d like. It has its share of fun though. The biggest wars between the youngest and eldest kids in our household (you know what I mean, right? 😉 ) are for the television remote. The elder ones request lovingly while the younger ones threaten to ‘throw the remote in the water cooler’ to get their way! 😀

A Jr got to spend time with Mom but I regret Angel won’t even have a fleeting memory of her. Easy access to pictures and connectivity by video calls ensures that we can keep the spirit of our loved ones alive and feel them close to us though. I’m truly indebted for this blessing. Although they cannot get over their funny face-making, Dad smiles lovingly looking at them on the screen everyday. 🙂

Grandparents are those adorable people who preach to discipline their own kids but develop a memory loss for them where their grandchildren are concerned. Making them happy is the easiest thing to do, one only needs to remember them and acknowledge their presence. They give lot more than what we can ever expect them to. <3

What will be my special thing for them today? I’m going to make them record a video for Dad and my in-laws and send it to them without informing. They will be all smiles! The happiness over a pleasant surprise never gets old with age, right?

I look forward to hear from you how would you celebrate Grandparents Day. Do share a selfie with your grandparents on Sept. 10, 2017 on Twitter or Facebook with #LoveJatao & tag @blogadda to win a goodie from Parachute Advansed.

  1. Aiyyo! So much love in this post! <3 The only grandparent I had the (mis)fortune of seeing and being with was my maternal grandmom, and she left me no reason ever to cherish the "grandparent" relationship 🙁 But I'm sure my kids (whenever they choose to make an appearance) will truly cherish that relationship. My parents (esp my mom) was created by God to be an amazing granny 😉 Both my parents already play that role with Pumbaa, Khloe and Bruce. For them, kids are kids, 2-legged or 4-legged 😉 😉

    1. Oh my Dadi was the same. That’s why she doesn’t feature in the post. 😛
Parents have some special thing for grandkids and it almost makes me feel jealous. The way they indulge them is so adorable! And yes, 2 or 4 legs don’t matter as long as the babies cling to them and love getting spoilt. ????

  2. I shared a very special bond with my maternal grandparents in fact the highlight was a trip to Thailand that the 3 of us took when I was 25. My grandpa is no more but the memories linger. I am glad to see my daughter follow in my footsteps and share a similar bond with her grandparents
